Iran: Honoring International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women in Terhan
Iranian women marched on the occasion of the International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women in Tehran's Abo Atash Park.
They tied the white ribbon on their fingers and made speeches on women's right to divorce, custody of children, inheritance and etc.
Only 180,000 out of 2.5million female heading households receive government support
There are 2.5million female heads of household throughout Iran, of whom 71% have lost their husbands and 11-12% have got divorce.”
This was announced by Habibollah Massoudi Farid, deputy for social affairs in the National Welfare Organization, noting that his organization covers only 180,000 of such families.
Farid pointed out that 67,000 of these women became head of household because their husbands were disabled, 63,000 because their husbands died, and 35,000 because they got divorced.
Farid also revealed that 36 percent of female heads of household are over 60 years of age, 40 percent are between 40 to 60 years old, 16 per cent are between 31 and 40, and 8 per cent are under 30 of whom 1.5 per cent are under 20.
