The five-day event that took place this past week in Ashraf 3, home to members of the Iranian opposition group People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), in Tirana, the capital of Albania, dazzled many eyes to the outstanding strength and the striking organizational clout of the PMOI/MEK who were relocated less than 3 years ago from Iraq.
This almost a week-long demonstration of force and aptitude also attracted many reporters to see closely how organized and capable the PMOI/MEK is. Among many reports and coverages aired during and following these events, The Washington Times article written by Tod Wood stands out.

Five days that can shake Iran

Ashraf 3, home to members of Iran's main opposition group, the People's Mojahedin (Mujahedin-e Khalq, PMOI or MEK) in Albania, has just witnessed five days of intense political activity with a number of conferences and exhibitions involving resistance members and local and international political figures, at a time when Iran is in the news against a backdrop of regional and international tensions.
Events of the last five days in Ashraf 3 have strategic significance for Iran’s current situation:
The unveiling of Ashraf 3 constitutes a victory for the Iranian opposition. Previously, when MEK members were situated in Iraq, the mullahs tried repeatedly to annihilate the group physically, politically and socially. The establishment of Ashraf 3 in Albania, nowadays part of the free world and out of the reach of the mullahs and their mercenaries, is the last thing Khamenei and his regime needed in their times of trouble. Ashraf 3 is the victorious culmination of a decade of resistance again terrorist, regional and political efforts to bring an end to the MEK. Instead the MEK has emerged stronger, more acceptable, and invincible at this critical juncture.
The international impasse and the regional crisis in which the mullahs’ regime is entrenched reflects, and at times hides, the deep social crisis that, for more than a year, has engulfed the regime in the shape of organized, well-aimed social activities especially by Iranian youth and women. Despite brutal repression, the mullahs have been unable to curb the growing qualitative and quantitative reach of this social crisis.
In parallel with events inside the country, the long and winding road from Ashraf 1 (Camp Ashraf in Iraq) to Ashraf 3, now behind the Resistance thanks to a long international mobilization of support for more than ten years, has given birth to a strong political trend in the international arena against the mullahs. Like the Resistance itself, this political trend has blocked the path of Western appeasement towards the mullahs, and in its evolution, it has found its way to the highest decision-making centers of the world.
The firmness witnessed in the words of the Resistance's international supporters during the five-day program went further than support for NCRI president-elect Maryam Rajavi’s 10-point plan for the future of Iran: they demanded that leaders of the mullahs’ regime by put on trial. This is a clear complement to the general disavowal of Iran's regime in the international arena.



Perpetrators of Iran's 1988 Massacre Must Be Held Accountable

Iranian opposition calls for accountability of regime officials involved in 1988 massacre

Albanian, July 15, 2019 - International dignitaries from many countries joined Iranian opposition President Maryam Rajavi, head of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), at a conference calling for the accountability of Iranian regime officials involved in the summer 1988 massacre of over 30,000 political prisoners across Iran. Most of these victims were members or supporters of the Iranian opposition group People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).
This conference was held in Ashraf 3, home to PMOI/MEK members in Tirana, Albania, following a series of other events and panels on the sidelines of the NCRI’s annual conference.
The conference was narrated by Behzad Naziri, a PMOI/MEK member who witnessed the first-hand glimpse of the mullahs’ human rights violations and survived the Iranian regime’s dungeons after enduring several years of unspeakable tortures. Several of the survivors of the regime’s dungeons gave testimonies of the atrocities committed in Iran’s prisons in the conference.

On Friday, the second leg of a 5-day event held in Ashraf 3, home to thousands of Iranian opposition members, weighed in the situation in Iran and the role played by the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as the main Iranian opposition group.

Hundreds of dignitaries and VIPs from across the globe delivered speeches at the conference about the ongoing struggle in Iran seeking to establish freedom and democracy. International reporters and journalist are on hand to provide coverage to these events.

Iranian opposition President Maryam Rajavi, head of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), was the keynote speaker at the event. Mayor Rudy Giuliani Meets Maryam Rajavi in Albania

Albania, July 11, 2019 - On Thursday, July 11, a meeting took place in Ashraf 3, located in Tirana, the capital of Albania between Iranian opposition president, Maryam Rajavi and Mayor Rudy Giuliani, US president, Donald Trump’s personal attorney. Ashraf 3 is home to thousands of Iranian opposition MEK members.

The two discussed the latest situation in Iran and the region including the continuing anti-regime protests across the country, the regime’s vulnerable state, and its malign activities in the Middle East region.

Mrs. Rajavi reiterated that the Iranian regime faces an explosive society, an organized resistance movement, and a different international environment. “As a result of the expansion of the Resistance units and their activities nationwide coupled with the regime’s inability to address any of the underlying problems facing Iranian people, the prospect for overthrowing this regime has never been brighter,” she said, adding, “it is time for the world community to recognize the rightful demand of the Iranian people to topple the ruling religious dictatorship.”

An international delegation visited Ashraf 3, home to members of the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) in Albania, and took part in an international conference with Iranian opposition President Maryam Rajavi, head of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI).

On Saturday, a conference simultaneously held by Iranians in 40 different locations in three continents across the world called for international action against the increasingly hostile terrorist activities of the Iranian regime and its egregious human rights abuses at home.
Titled “Halt mullahs’ regime growing human rights violations and export of terrorism,” the conference featured speeches by Iranian opposition leader Maryam Rajavi, political dignitaries from several countries and representatives of Iranian communities from across the world.
The gatherings message: Adopt a firm policy toward the Iranian regime and support the aspirations of the Iranian people for change in their country.

Maryam Rajavi: Respect the Iranian people’s desire to overthrow the regime, establish freedom and democracy
The keynote speaker of the event was Maryam Rajavi, the president-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran. Mrs. Rajavi pointed out two fundamental issues representing the past year’s developments:
First, the clerical regime has no way and no solution to thwart its overthrow. And second, the theocratic regime’s strategy to survive a series of crises as we speak is further crackdown and suppression inside Iran, and more exporting of terrorism, war and tension to other countries.
“Over the past year, the regime repeatedly tried to stifle the uprisings. Every time, however, the embers started glowing from under the ashes,” Mrs. Rajavi said, referring to the nationwide protests that began in December 2017 and have continued intermittently. Mrs. Rajavi also pointed out that the regime has failed to contain the activities of Iranian resistance units and its efforts to conduct terrorist activities against Iranian opposition movement PMOI/MEK has caused an international backlash against the regime.
“The product of such a political impasse has been a dramatic fall in the regime’s political, economic, social and international status,” Mrs. Rajavi remarked.
Under the current political deadlock, the mullahs of Iran have resorted to several failed terrorist attempts abroad, Mrs. Rajavi said.
“the regime’s recourse to terrorism and other crimes is not a transient or tactical reaction, but a solution and an outlet in the regime’s strategy to survive and rein in its overthrow crisis,” Mrs. Rajavi stressed.
Mrs. Rajavi also remarked that the regime’s desperate resort to terrorism in Europe comes at a time that Tehran seeks to bank on the support of European states to dampen U.S. sanctions that recently came into effect.
And contrary to what some analysts and politicians in the West who try to portray the regime’s terrorist acts as the doings of rogue elements, the terrorist plots are being directly orchestrated and ordered at the highest levels of the Iranian regime, including supreme leader Ali Khamenei, President Hassan Rouhani, foreign minister Javad Zarif and the Ministry of Intelligence and Security, the regime’s notorious terror and espionage apparatus. The testament to the fact is the arrest and expulsion of several Iranian diplomats who were directly involved in the regime’s foreign terror activities.
“It is absolutely illogical to suggest that some acts of terrorism could be carried out arbitrarily, without the knowledge of Khamenei or Rouhani, in a regime that monitors all the minute details of people’s private lives. Such fictitious premises are intended to cover up the regime’s crimes and only further embolden them in resorting to terrorism,” Mrs. Rajavi said.
Mrs. Rajavi concluded that contrary the past, where the regime used terrorism as an offensive tool to carry out its policies, the recent uptick in its use of terrorism in Europe and the U.S. is “a defensive tool to launch a counterattack against the Iranian people’s uprisings.”
“Indeed, isn’t it regrettable that despite disclosure of the mullahs’ terrorism on European soil, the regime’s appeasers are still trying to find a way to deal with the regime and seeking to aid the murderers of the Iranian people?” Mrs. Rajavi said. “Gentlemen, if you don’t want to stand by the people of Iran, at least do not victimize the security of your own citizens.”
“This is our word: Respect the Iranian people’s desire to overthrow the regime and establish freedom and democracy.”
Mrs. Rajavi called for a block on financial lifelines that fund Khamenei’s apparatus, the IRGC, the terrorist Ouds Force, and the regime’s repressive forces. She also called for the IRGC, the MOIS, and the regime’s state propaganda machine to be placed on the U.S. List of Foreign Terrorist Organizations and the terror list of the European Union.

Kennedy: Iranians suffer as regime spreads terror
“Man Irani hastam - Man Ashrafi hastam” were the first words of former U.S. Congressman Patrick Kennedy.
With protests increasing across the country, Kennedy emphasized how the Iranian regime has increased its terror activities abroad. The regime knows the protests are linked to the PMOI/MEK. Thus, Tehran has escalated its demonizing measures against this opposition organization.
There has been a surge in terror plots against the Iranian dissidents, many foiled in Albania, France, and Denmark, he added. This mirrors their terror campaign back in the 1980s. The European Union should end all its connections with the Iranian regime as requested by the former Democrat Member of the U.S. Congress.
Targeting the PMOI/MEK and NCRI as Iran’s democratic alternative proves the NCRI is a viable force for change, he added. This resistance has presented a real map for change and a democratic Iran.
All of Iran’s wealth is being spent on terrorism and terror groups and all the while the Iranian people are in the worst possible economic conditions, Kennedy remarked.
The Iranian embassy in Albania has doubled its size, Kennedy warned, adding all of Iran’s embassies in Europe are involved in Europe. “I support Mrs. Rajavi’s message saying the IRGC must be designated as a terror entity,” he added.

Pandeli Majko: You have realized a miracle
Expressing his long-lasting support for the PMOI/MEK in his country, former Albanian prime minister Pandeli Majko noted the bright future he sees for Iran as the movement for freedom strives forward.
“An honest question is that why is the Iranian regime’s embassy in Tirana while you are also in this country? The answer is that you are different because you represent the Iranian people and the future of Iran,” Majko said.
The future of Iran and the Middle East will be under the leadership of Maryam Rajavi, he noted. There are diplomats acting as terrorists. Answers are needed in this regard. This melody heard in Tirana is the song of freedom, which should also be played in Iran. And here, you have realized a miracle by building this city [Ashraf 3] in less than a year, the former Albanian prime minister added.

Betancourt: “You are the hope”
Former Colombian presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt attended the convention and emphasized on the PMOI / MEK’s role in the opposition movement against the Iranian regime.
“When I accepted the invitation to come to this convention, I insisted on being with PMOI/MEK members inside Ashraf 3,” she said.
“In June, during a massive Iranian opposition convention which I was attending, we heard news of an Iranian regime terror plot targeting the rally, foiled by Belgian, German and French authorities,” Betancourt added, reviewing the terror plots pursued by the Iranian regime against the PMOI/MEK.
“In parallel nature, the Iranian regime has been very active in attempting to tarnish the Iranian opposition PMOI/MEK’s image,” she noted.
Betancourt remarked that terrorism has been in the nature of the mullahs’ regime, to impose fear in the Iranian society and abroad and now, they are using terrorism as a defensive tool to safeguard their interests.
After the bombing plot in France, President Francois Macron adopted a position that is really a red signal of what is to come. He froze the assets of the Ministry of Intelligence in France, expelled people from the Iranian embassy and he was about to appoint an ambassador in Iran, which he decided against.
“I think things are changing and am very hopeful and positive,” Betancourt emphasized.
“The best option for Iran is here, being freedom with Maryam Rajavi. And now they are fearing that they will be brought to justice. This is our commitment. We will free Iran and will bring [the regime] to justice...Time has changed. You are the hope. Maryam is the leader and we are with you,” she added.

Ghozali: Regime has no answer to protests
“Terrorism is part of the DNA of the Iranian regime,” said Sid Ahmed Ghozali, the former Prime Minister of Algeria. “Maryam Rajavi said this 10 years ago.”

Ghozali underlined that the solution to dealing with the Iranian regime’s terrorism not a military offensive or appeasement. “The regime will never stand by its promises. The only solution is to remove this regime,” Ghozali said.
Underlining the importance of the protests that erupted across Iran at the turn of the year, Ghozali noted that in contrary to 2009, demonstrations in Iran were focused on elections, the recent demonstrations are focused on the Iranian leadership.
“The new point is that the Iranian regime has no answer to the current demonstrations. The regime can’t do anything regarding the demonstrations in Iran, which is the result of 40 years of repression,” Ghozali said. The regime has enough money. Why can’t it solve the economic crisis of the Iranian people? Because it is only capable of suppressing the Iranian people.”
If the West doesn’t understand the regime’s terrorism, they will never be able to root out terrorism from their countries, Ghozali concluded.

Iran’s regime is terrified of the PMOI/MEK
The Iranian regime is very active in Albania, especially in malign measures, said former Albanian defense minister Fatmir Mediu. Tehran is spreading lies, especially through its embassy in Tirana. The more they adopt such measures, the more they prove how terrified they are of you.

Irish Senator Gerry Horkan: No moderation in Iran’s regime
The main threats of the Iranian regime are terrorism, ballistic missiles program and its human rights violations said Senator Gerry Horkan from Ireland. The regime used the JCPOA to fund terrorism. Some politicians in Europe are supporting Iranian regime President Hassan Rouhani while the regime has intensified its terrorism in Lebanon, Yemen, Iraq and other parts of the Middle East.
“This shows that there’s no moderation in the regime,” Horkan said.
The regime’s situation in 2018 has two characteristics: The regime is trying in vain to quell ongoing protests while at the same time, the Iranian resistance is rising in popularity and influence, Horkan remarked.

Maryam Rajavi met and held talks on Saturday, December 15, 2018, with Mr. Pandeli Majko, senior Minister of State and former Prime Minister of Albania, Mr. Patrick Kennedy and Ms. Ingrid Betancourt.
Mr. Pandeli Majko expressed his pleasure at the progress he had seen in the construction of Ashraf 3, and the PMOI’s settlement in their new home. He stressed on the need to provide and guarantee their security.
Mr. Patrick Kennedy expressed his delight on his first visit to Ashraf 3 and meeting with Iran’s freedom fighters. He added: I consider myself an Iranian and an Ashrafi. One of the best periods of my life has been when I supported the protection and security of Ashraf residents.

On Tuesday evening, December 4, 2018, an Albanian parliamentary delegation headed by deputy chair of the Albanian Parliament, Edi Paloka met and held talk with Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, president-elect of the Iranian Resistance outside Tirana, Albania.
Five members of the Albanian Parliament, Messrs. Edmond Spaho, Endri Hasa, Xhemal Gjunkshi, and Mses. Grida Duma and Valentina Duka, also attended this meeting.

While Rouhani quotes ideas about tolerance and world peace, the regime carries on with its traditional chant of 

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani recently made the bold threat that Iran could restart its nuclear program in a matter of "hours" if it chose to. The remarks are the latest iteration of the Iranian regime's good cop, bad cop routine.

When discussing the actions of Iran in general and the presidency of Hassan Rouhani in particular, it would be apt to reply with Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr's famous epigram, "the more things change, the more they stay the same." In the case of Rouhani, there has been much talk of change, but the regime has conducted business as usual inside Iran.

Rouhani's attempt to sell himself as a moderate stands in contrast with his foreign policy record. In fact, Rouhani's reign in Iran has been characterized by an aggressive regional foreign policy, as his regime has sent troops to Syria to prop up dictator Bashar Assad, inflamed a civil war in Yemen, and played a divisive role in Iraqi politics. The Iranian opposition is gaining momentum due to a growing consensus in the US Congress over the necessity for regime change in Iran. A senior delegation of US senators went to Albania’s capital Tirana this week to meet Maryam Rajavi, who heads the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), a political coalition calling for regime change in Iran and considered the main threat to the ruling mullahs. 

They also met members of the People’s Mojahedin of Iran (MEK), the main member of this varied coalition of groups and individuals. The high-profile visit comes at a time when Washington has slapped major new sanctions on Iran, including its Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), for its ballistic missile drive, its support for terrorism and its human rights violations. Given that the IRGC controls over 40 percent of Iran’s economy, these new sanctions are a heavy blow to Tehran’s ambitions.

The Iranian opposition is gaining momentum due to a growing consensus in the US Congress over the necessity for regime change in Iran, argues Dr. Majid Rafizadeh, a Harvard-educated, Iranian-American political scientist and president of the International American Council.

On Saturday, August 12, 2017, a senior delegation from the United States Senate meet with Maryam Rajavi, in the Albanian capital, Tirana, and discussed the situation of the members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) in Albania, the latest developments in Iran and the Middle East as well as solutions to end to current crisis in that region.
The Senate delegation was comprised of Senators Roy Blunt, Vice President of the Republican Conference, and member of the Appropriation, Select Intelligence, Rules and Administration, and Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committees; John Cornyn, the Majority Whip, and a member of the Judiciary, Select Intelligence, and Finance committees; and Thom Tillis, a member of the Armed Services, Judiciary, Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs and Veterans’ Affairs committees.
The meeting, at one of the centers of the MEK in Albania, was initiated by Senator Roy Blunt, as the delegation was on a visit to Albania.
Led by Senator Blunt, the delegation congratulated the safe and secure relocation of all Camp Liberty residents outside of Iraq and wished them success in their struggle for democracy and human rights in Iran. Having undertaken extensive efforts to ensure the security of MEK members in Camp Liberty, Iraq, and their transfer outside that country in previous years, Senator Blunt described the relocation as a major victory for the Iranian people and Resistance and lauded the efforts of Maryam Rajavi and the Iranian Resistance for the success of this major mission.
Maryam Rajavi thanked the Senators for their decisive position vis-à-vis the Iranian regime, especially the adoption of a new resolution which imposed sanctions on the clerical regime and the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) for human rights abuses, the ballistic missile program, and the export of terrorism. She expressed gratitude for the efforts of the U.S. Senate, particularly Senator Blunt, regarding the protection of thousands of MEK members in Camp Liberty, Iraq, and their safe relocation to Albania.

Maryam Rajavi emphasized that contrary to the propaganda by the Iranian regime’s apologists, the ruling theocracy was rotten to the core and very fragile. Without foreign support, especially the policy of appeasement pursued in the U.S. and Europe, it would not have survived so long. She added that regime change in Iran is necessary and within reach because a viable and democratic alternative exists. Maryam Rajavi said equating regime change by the Iranian people for democracy with war and instability in the region is a sheer lie, the source of which is the Iranian regime’s lobby in western capitals. They demagogically turn the truth on its head, she noted, adding that the overthrow of the Tehran regime was a prerequisite to ending crisis and war in the Middle East.
Maryam Rajavi underscored the need for imposing comprehensive sanctions on the Iranian regime’s banking and oil sector, expelling the IRGC and its affiliated militias from Syria, Iraq, and other regional countries, taking urgent steps to punish the regime for widespread political executions, especially the 1988 massacre of 30,000 political prisoners, setting up a commission of inquiry to investigate this major crime against humanity with the aim of bringing to justice the perpetrators, and recognizing the aspirations of the Iranian people and Resistance to overthrow the ruling religious tyranny and to establish freedom and democracy, and a republic based on the separation of religion and state, gender equality, and a non-nuclear Iran.
The Senate delegation also met with a number of MEK members as well as witnesses to, and victims of, the Iranian regime’s atrocities in Iran and camps Ashraf and Liberty.
